Instagram Rolls Out Updates to Its Interface


If there is one constant about life, it is that change is always with us.

This is even truer when it comes to Instagram. Facebook’s booming digital media platform just rolled out a slew of new features to make life easier (and even make some money) for creators that use the platform to reach their audience.

While most of these updates merely formalize features that were part of the service before, the changes to the user interface do make it easier to discover “Reels” and even buy products from your favorite brands.

As for the new reels tab, Instagram wrote on their official blog, “We first launched Reels a few months ago – and we’ve already seen amazing reels from creators, like roller skating with @esty, comedy from @cameronjhenderson, motivation from @paperboytheprince, and wheelchair choreography from dance team @rolletes_la. Now, we’re rolling out the Reels tab to be a kind of a stage, a place where people can share their creativity with the world and have a chance to break out and find an audience.”

And in an even further nod to creators, Instagram’s new “Shop” feature is “…making it easy to get inspired by creators you love, shop on Instagram, and support small businesses. You can find personalized recommendations, editors’ picks curated by our @shop channel, shoppable videos, new product collections, and more.”

The Reels feature is probably self-explanatory for anyone that has even the vaguest idea about what Tiktok is. When it comes to the shop, however, this is a really welcome addition for the many brands that hock merch on the platform and is something they’ve discussed for quite a while.
