Brotherman Bill is a 2006 music video by American rock musician Terrible Tim known for its catchy chorus and repetitive lyrics. In 2015, the video saw a resurgence in popularity after being featured on a site curated by users from the /s4s/ (shit 4chan says) board on 4chan.

Origin

On October 18th, 2006, YouTuber TerribleTim uploaded a music video for the rock song “Brotherman Bill,” in which he is shown singing at a podium with a translucent photograph of his face superimposed in the foreground (shown below).

On July 15th, 2011, a Pastebin page containing the lyrics for the song was created. On February 18th, 2012, YouTuber finnaltar uploaded a video titled “Descending Bill,” featuring “Brotherman Bill” playing in the background of various sexually-themed computer animations (shown below, left). Within four years, the video received upwards of 100,000 views and 200 comments. On December 10th, 2013, Warframe Forums user Morgax submitted a thread about the video. On April 5th, 2013, YouTuber Kamgtr uploaded a mashup of “Brotherman Bill” with the 2012 pop song “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift (shown below, right).

On April 9th, 2014, YouTuber SteeScribbles uploaded a chiptune remix of the song. The video has since been removed. In February 2015, 4chan user korchak posted a thread on the /s4s/ board asking for content to put on the newly registered domain DankMayMays.com, which subsequently featured a page for Brotherman Bill. On March 12th, the /r/BrothermanBill subreddit was launched. On August 13th, Twitch streamer Reynad discussed the song while playing the game Hearthstone (shown below, right).
